Within Our Reach By David Martin Call

Within Our Reach By David Martin Call 65 pages
“We attend our meetings, pay our tithing, and all other things as we are required, and yet many of us still seem to be miserable. We do not really enjoy our religion as we should. Something seems to be missing; something is definitely wrong.” So writes author David Martin Call. As Brigham Young once asked, “Is it not a hard task to live this religion without enjoying the spirit of it?”
Now, in Within Our Reach, the author explains how to more fully “enjoy the spirit” of our religion, hot to obtain the peace and power of the gospel in spite of the cares, obstacles, and temptations of the world. In this day of economic problems, of rampant sin, and of “wars and rumours of wars,” the blessings and happiness of living the gospel with full purpose of heart are perhaps more important than at any other time.
Within Our Reach is divided into three sections. The first explains how we can understand our spiritual state, how we can know of our standing before the Lord. The second section discusses how to find the causes of our spiritual dissatisfaction, emphasizing the need to choose without reservation the things of God over the things of the world. The third section discusses the “mighty change,” the true conversion to the gospel that comes through the power of the Spirit, and how we may attain that blessing.
The peace and power of the gospel may be ours; we have only to reach out and grasp them. Even when we feel unworthy and discouraged, the Lord is there, and we may look to him and live. As President Wilford Woodruff declared, “In these days, when the holy Priesthood is restored to us, we have no excuse for saying that our minds are not satisfied, for the blessings are given to us; they are within our reach, and it is your privilege and mine to enjoy them.”
